Paul Opdyke
General Manager
From the beginning, Paul’s goal in life was to become a business leader.
While attending Eastern Michigan University, Paul managed a five-star gourmet restaurant in Ann Arbor. Following this, he managed a very large brewery restaurant in Novi. Early on he was introduced to the fine art of customer service. Running premier, large restaurant establishments with heavy volume and extremely high standards is what built a solid service industry foundation for Paul.
He made the transition to the property service industry when he became the General Manager for a multi-million dollar commercial and residential property maintenance company. He managed every aspect of the business. Although the typical eighty and ninety hours of work a week was never a complaint for Paul, he decided it was time to invest in his own business and to carve his own path.
Paul partnered with Matt West in 2004, and they founded Adventure Window Cleaning. This lead to expanding the business by opening Serene Surroundings, Inc. in 2005 and to partnering with Eric Lloyd. Serene Surroundings has had three locations in the city of Plymouth, and each time growing the company to maximum capacity. Over the years, they have purchased and merged more companies: ES Does It, Infinitely Green, and Baldwin Landscape Group. Paul’s entrepreneurial drive allows for tough decisions and long term growth with the ability to attract and retain the right type of employees and clients.
Attending industry specific trainings and participating in professional peer groups are a couple of Paul’s professional interests. The National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP), The Michigan Green Industry Association (MGIA), and The Snow & Ice Management Association (SIMA), are a few of the organizations that have fueled Paul’s entrepreneurial spirit and helped grow Serene Landscape Group to what it is today.
Paul strongly believes that true success is gained when giving back to others. He has served as board member and president of the Plymouth Rotary Foundation and was the Plymouth Chicken BBQ President after being a director for 6 years. Currently, he is a member of the Growth Works Inc. board of directors and is committed to the mission of helping young people lead substance free lives. He always jumps in when there is an opportunity to help. Service work in Plymouth and nearby communities is part of life – planting flowers downtown, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, developing a park and healing garden for displaced families at a local shelter, and so on.
Serene Landscape Group is the result of years of dedication and a commitment to excellence, from not just the ownership but from their entire team, a team of true professionals who share in the vision and core values of the company and work hard every day to fulfill the mission of Serene Landscape Group:
“To build and maintain extraordinary relationships with our Clients, Employees, and the Communities we service.”
